Highest number of daily visitors ever on EuroVelo.com
Update (25 June 2023): The new record is 23,900+ visitors daily! Update (6 August 2020): The record was broken again with 11,300+ visitors in a day!
The coronavirus outbreak has severely disrupted many aspects of our lives, however, for cycling and cycling tourism, there have also been some positive changes. From increased infrastructure (and financial) measures to numerous new cycling initiatives (which you can follow in our #RestartCycleTourism campaign), the post-lockdown resilience of cycling as a key mode of transport is evident. And if you ever need further proof of this, look no further than the surge of interest in the EuroVelo network in the past months.
A brief look at the current EuroVelo.com web statistics shows that our website reached its highest ever peak of users in the first week of July! In relative terms, this represents an increase of 110% compared to the previous year and an increase of 24% over the previous record. Likewise, this growth does not show any signs of slowing down, with projections showing that this might be the busiest summer for EuroVelo.com so far. The overall trend indicates that EuroVelo.com is on pace to surpass last year’s record totalling 1.35 million users and 1.86 million web sessions.
These high numbers of visits on the EuroVelo.com website also mean increased visits to the national and regional cycling websites of National EuroVelo Coordination Centres and Coordinators (NECC/Cs) and project partners, to which EuroVelo subsites redirect for detailed information.
Other interesting figures so far include:
- A big increase in visitors from the Benelux area, which bodes well with the recent Benelux Bike Declaration
- An increase of younger audiences (18-24 years old) visiting the website
- A slight rise in female readership from previous year
- Ever-Increasing number of visitors using the mobile version of the website
More in-depth analysis of our web platform will be available in the 2020 web statistics report early next year. In the meanwhile, we would like to thank our visitors and partners for their continued support of the EuroVelo network.
